Ilhan Ersahin's Afternoon in Rio is a recording that took place one late nite with friends in Rio de Janeiro, in a legendary studio in Copacabana where Jorge Ben and other Brazil stars recorded many of their hit records . The idea of this recording was to capture a real Rio feel with artists living there but with a whole new tone to it . A new approach, a new way of expressing this Rio feel with musicians familiar with their own tradition but open to elaborate on new concepts. It's a meeting between Ilhan Ersahin's New York City and Nublu's musical scene input input with the expression of Rio de Janeiro's great new vocalists and musicians.

The 2 main vocalists on this recording, Thalma De Freitas and Nina Becker, are new up and coming vocal stars. They are also the lead vocalists in the superb band called Orquestra Imperial. Catatau ,the most praised guitar player of Brazil today, has a unique north eastern/rock style of playing that goes well with the psychadelic approach of the mixing on this album, done by Ilhan Ersahin and Yuri Kalil, in Kalil's studio in Sao paulo.

China, originally from Recife and a rising star himself who is hosting a weekly MTV show at the moment, brings his rough/edgy approach on vocals on 2 tracks. Kassin , the star producer in Brasil right now, added his flavors on guitars and keyboards. Junio Barreto, one of Brazil's greatest new composers, sings on one track. Also on vocals in one song, is the rap duo from Sao Paulo ,the Mamelo sound system, with Lurdez da Luz and Rodrigo Brandao. Kenny Wollensen, from New York, and long time collaborator of Ersahin, is the drummer in the recording alongside Alberto Continentino on bass, from Rio . Ilhan Ersahin is on saxophone and keyboards. Other Brazilian collaborators in the record are Takara on vibraphone, vocalist Barbara Eugenia, eletronic percussionist Leo Monteiro, and guitarrist Muzak.
